Tooth Extractions in Medicine Hat at Vista Dental
Dr. Atwood and Dr. Spitz perform routine oral surgery procedures right here at Vista Dental — including simple extractions and straightforward wisdom tooth removal.
Gentle oral surgery from dentists you already know and trust
Having a tooth removed or a wisdom tooth extracted can feel daunting — but in the hands of Dr. Atwood and Dr. Spitz, most patients are surprised by how straightforward and comfortable the experience actually is. Both dentists are known for their calm, patient approach and their ability to put even the most anxious patients at ease.
For routine extractions and uncomplicated wisdom tooth removal, there's no need to be referred to a separate clinic. We handle these procedures right here at our Medicine Hat dental office — with nitrous oxide sedation available for patients who need a little extra comfort.
When might you need a tooth extracted?
Tooth extractions are sometimes the best option when a tooth is too damaged or decayed to save, when there's severe infection, when overcrowding is causing problems, or when a baby tooth is out of position and preventing a permanent tooth from erupting normally.
Dr. Atwood and Dr. Spitz will always exhaust every option to save your natural tooth before recommending an extraction — and will walk you through every step of the process so you know exactly what to expect.
When should wisdom teeth come out?
Wisdom teeth don't always need to be removed — but when they're causing pain, crowding, infection or are growing in at an angle, extraction is usually the right call.
Dr. Atwood and Dr. Spitz handle straightforward wisdom tooth removals in-office. If your wisdom teeth are impacted or require surgical removal, we'll refer you to a trusted specialist.

Consultation & X-rays
Your dentist will examine the tooth, take digital X-rays and assess whether extraction is the right course of action. You'll discuss your options, sedation preferences and what the procedure involves before anything is scheduled.
The extraction
The area is thoroughly numbed with local anesthetic — you'll feel pressure but not pain. Nitrous oxide sedation is available if you'd like extra relaxation. Dr. Atwood and Dr. Spitz work carefully and efficiently to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
Recovery & aftercare
You'll receive full post-operative instructions before you leave. Most patients recover comfortably without complication. We'll follow up to make sure everything is healing well and discuss any next steps such as replacing the extracted tooth.
Nervous about your procedure? We offer nitrous oxide sedation.
Nitrous oxide — sometimes called laughing gas — is a safe, effective way to take the edge off during dental procedures. It works quickly, wears off fast and lets most patients drive themselves home afterward. Ask our team about sedation when you book your appointment.
